How to clean the inside of a washer?

Now to explain. I know a washing machine needs to be cleaned every so often because it is constantly being subjected to dirty water, mineral deposits, detergent deposits and an article i read says to use 2 cups of vinegar and add the rest hot water and run a whole cycle.. but here's the sick twist.. my mom accidentally washed a rug that ended up having cat feces on it..our washer smells like a litter box (gross!!) so i need some effective ways to take out the smell and the bacteria..because i need to wash my bedding and school clothes but not after that.. i wanna disinfect it real good first..so your help would be appreciated.. btw its a top loader
