How to have better control of a cantering horse?

First off, you need to shorten your stirrups. Secondly, you need to make your reins tighter. With shorter stirrups (don't go too short) and shorter reins, it will help greatly. That won't solve the problem though. It sounds like you need to ride some other horses to build up a strong seat before riding this guy.
