I have a sprint palm centro and i want to transfer some music. How can i make it transfer music?

i have downloaded the disc to my computer, and when i go to transfer the music to my phone (pick the music out) it says, "there was a problem installing this hardware MTP device" what does that mean how do i make it not tell me that
